Abu Simbel Temple

Abu Simbel is a massive rock-cut temple adorned with intricate carvings and hieroglyphics that depict the pharaohs' grandeur and their devotion to the gods in  1200 B.C. The two main temples, the Great Temple of Ramses II and the smaller Temple of Hathor are positioned to align with the sun twice a year, illuminating their sanctuaries.

Carved into the cliffs around 1264–1244 BCE by Ramses II, the Great Abu Simbel and the smaller Temple of Hathor stand as awe-inspiring testaments to Egypt’s grandeur. The Great Temple features four 20-meter-tall seated colossi of Ramses II, while the Temple of Hathor honors both the goddess and Ramses’ beloved wife, Nefertari.
